What is a Flight Camp in China?

  • Definition of Flight Camp
    1. What is a Flight Camp?

In simple terms, a flight camp is a place where people who love sports aviation come to gather.

  • Flight Camp Layout
    • Four Requirements
      The layout of the camp must meet the following four requirements

      1. Local Economy Development Needs
      2. Sports Industry Development Needs
      3. Tourism Industry Development Needs
      4. Youth Aviation Literacy Needs
    • Three Principles
      1. Low altitude space requires economic development, a comprehensive aviation camp plan should be adapted to local economic development and the status quo, as the local general aviation industry foothold.
      2. Near scenic areas, to meet the development needs of the tourism industry, aviation camp construction should be close to scenic sports, so that each resort has to offer 2-3 activities of flight camp nearby.
      3. Close to the literacy needs of the youth, young students are currently involved in a number of sports aviation model groups. In the planning stages the National aviation camp should establish a “government guidance, market operation, enterprises and social participation.”
    • Category of Flight Camps
      • Class A: According to the principles of sports aviation development, six regional flight camps will be built and funded by the National Sports Administrative Department and ASFC. The planning and construction of a comprehensive line of aviation camp, is aimed to establish a template for future camps.
      • Class B: ASFC and the respective national authorities will cooperate together work to develop aviation camps. Local GA companies will work with national authorities t0 handle the functional improvements and operations.
      • Class C: Under the guidance and planning of ASFC, entirely by the enterprises according to their own conditions for the establishment of air sports activities to meet the basic conditions of the flight camp

Criteria for Flight Camps
gliders

  • Gliding Events
    • Require above 800 meters in length and 15 meters in width for airport runway and grass runway.
    • Approved flight air space.
    • Enough hangar size to store gliders and related equipment.
    • Maintenance Service and Refueling Equipment
    • Flight tower, Communication and meteorological equipment.
    • Enough take off space and air space and no surrounding buildings and power lines.
    • Surrounding area should be suitable for gliding.
    • Corresponding fire rescue equipment and rescue capability.

aerobatics

  • Aerobatic Events
    • General conditions to cruise.
    • Above 600 meters in length and 20 meters in width for airport runway
    • Approved flight air space.
    • Surrounding area should be suitable for aerobatics
    • Enough hangar size to store related equipment.
    • Corresponding fire rescue equipment and rescue capability.

lsa

  • Light Sport Aircraft(Trikes, Helicopters, Gyrocopters, etc.)
    • Approved flight air space.
    • having the same criteria as the glider aerobatics venues standard items;
    • Above 600 meters in length and 15 meters in width for airport runway
    •  Corresponding fire rescue equipment and rescue capability.

hot-balloon

  • Hot Balloon and Airships
    • Enough take off space and air space and no surrounding buildings and power lines.
    • Surrounding area should be flat and open.
    • Approved flight air space.
    • Stable and strong tie downs for balloon and airship
    • Tie down area must be twice as big as the balloons or airships and be closed off.
    • Special hangar to store fire-fighting equipment and fueling.
    • Ground to air communication system.
    • Public identity must meet GB/T 10001 1 requirements.
    • Wind speed equipped with tracking devices
    • Corresponding fire rescue equipment and rescue capability.

paragliding

  • Paragliding Events
    • Take off area should be flat and be above 30 meters in length and 20 meters in width and the slope should not exceed 40˚. No obstacles should surround the area.
    • Landing area should also be flat, leveled and open. It should be no less than 50 meters in length and width. No obstacles should surround the area.
    • Approved flight air space.
    • Ground to air communication system.
    • Wind speed equipped with tracking devices.
    • Corresponding fire rescue equipment and rescue capability.
    • If the area is near water, lifesaving equipment must be nearby.
    • Public identity must meet GB/T 10001 1 requirements.

hand-gliding

  • Hand Gliding
    • Take off area should be flat and be above 20 meters in length and 20 meters in width and the slope should not exceed 40˚. No obstacles should surround the area.
    • Landing area should also be flat, leveled and open. It should be no less than 150 meters in length and width no less than 80. No obstacles should surround the area.
    • Approved flight air space.
    • Ground to air communication system.
    • Wind speed equipped with tracking devices.
    • Corresponding fire rescue equipment and rescue capability.
    • If the area is near water, lifesaving equipment must be nearby.
    • Public identity must meet GB/T 10001 1 requirements.

paramotors

  • Paramotor Events
    • Take off area should be flat and be above 150 meters in length and 80 meters in width for wheel paramotor. For footed paramotor take off area should be flat and be above 100 meters in length and 50 meters in width. No obstacles should surround the area.
    • Approved flight air space.
    • Ground to air communication system.
    • Wind speed equipped with tracking devices.
    • Corresponding fire rescue equipment and rescue capability.
    • If the area is near water, lifesaving equipment must be nearby.
    • Public identity must meet GB/T 10001 1 requirements.

  • Model Airplanes
    General

    • The site should be an established audience area. Flight airspace should have no tall buildings, towers or power lines and other obstacles.
    • It should not affect the military or civil airports order of flight, flight activity perimeter may not be in the military restricted zones and endanger flight safety facilities;
    • It should have broadcast, communications equipment and the comprehensive range of power equipment;
    • Wind speed equipped with tracking devices.
    • The large-scale activities must be provided with drinking water station, ambulance station, public health and other facilities;
    • Public identity must meet GB/T 10001 1 requirements.
    • Workshop area should be no less than 100 sq meters for classrooms. With at least 30 tables, each table should be equipped with power supply, independent lighting, maintenance and processing machinery.
    • It shall have no less than 2-3 classrooms or workshops that are between 45-60 square each.

      Site Requirements
    • Aerospace for competitions: should be 800 meters wide × 500 meters above the flat open space or larger than the area corresponding to the size of the irregular space and airspace.
    • The control line items: should be 60 meters wide × 60 meters above the level of cement (bitumen) or soil site for the audience area; racing and combat flying field should have a high metal fence and be 2 meters in length, 25 m × 15 m wide  for ready to fly zone.
    • Remote Control Events
      •  Aerobatic: should be, 300 meters in length × 200 wide meters above the open, flat ground. Should have response runways, airfield, steering area, maintenance area (to fly zone) on the field and there should be a clear distinction between the audience area and flight areas.
      • Gliding flight: should be, 220 meters  in length × 220 wide m above the open, flat ground. It should have respond flight area, maintenance area (to fly zone) on the field and there should be a clear distinction between the audience area and flight areas.
      • Indoor flight: should be 20 meters high × 12 m × 8 meters above the indoor venues, there should be a clear distinction between the audience area and flight areas. Stunt events preparation should have a nylon fence between the flight zone and other areas.

    • 20,000 flight camps will be built in the next 10-15 years

    • Build China’s 200km Sports Aviation Flight Range(currently there are 50 flight camps in place)
